They were holding demonstration against the Israeli separation barrier which cuts through their village. The protest held every Friday has become a symbol of Palestine anger against Israeli illegal encroachment of Palestine lands. Aljazeera correspondent in Bilin, Jacky Rowland reported that Israeli troops came over the separation barrier to throw teargas from short range against the protesters. She said “basically what is going on here is that protesters came up to the barrier and more teargas are been thrown by the Israeli troops”. “The residents of the village of Bilin comes every week to the village to basically make the point that, their land has been stolen to build walls and they are also making the point that no matter the amount of tear gas they will not stop. Of course, it is just one village that has it land seized, stolen by the Israelis, the same story is repeating right across the West Bank but Bilin has become a symbol and inspiration to other Palestine village in the way it has stood up, ready to the kind of brutal tactics that the Israeli use to try to crush their resistance.” Israeli Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that he will consider freezing illegal settlement construction but not quite yet. “The Israeli prime minister is trying to joggle to conflicting set of demands, on the one hand he has the Americans, and the Palestine and in fact most of the international community pushing for freeze of all settlement building in the West Bank. But he is under the pressure of the members of his own government, Israeli politicians who are absolutely posh of stopping the building of settlements.” She said Basically, from the Palestine point of view, this doesn’t represent any meaning change in Israeli policy to continuing building unoccupied Palestine lands.
