BBC present the report on the clashe that occurred in Jerusalem. The situation of escalation and confrontation and the reasons for those occurence and also whats fuelling them. It was reported that hundreds have been injured in the clashe. Jewish Israelis and Arab Palestinians make claims to the same land and the hearted between them flared at the Damascus gate which is the entrance to the old gate. The prospect of forced evictions of Palestinians from east Jerusalem has brought Arabs to the street and hundreds of them have been injured. The plan is to evict Palestinian residents of east Jerusalem so as to make room for Jewish settlers. It was also reported that even on Jerusalem day march they were out again through the old city hardline. They used the annual event to celebrate the capture of east Jerusalem by Israeli forces in the 1967 war. And now, amid growing international calls for calm, the UN security council is holding an emergency section to discuss the situation of confrontation and escalation going on in Jerusalem.
Kramer Tanya, BBC correspondent in Jerusalem explains why contentious march is expected to take place by Israelis in Jerusalem and how much potential is there for the violence to escalate.
In her report, she said in Jerusalem, Israelis celebrate Jerusalem in 1967 and the reunification of Jerusalem but that is from an Israelite point of view. Palestinians went to see east Jerusalem as their future capital and they see this as as a provocation. She also analyses that the route goes through east Jerusalem to Palestine through Palestinian neighborhoods through one of the main gates Damascus gate and then through the Muslim quarter. She also mentioned that israeli security officials have warned that under the current circumstances that the route at least should be changed but they haven't heard anything to that regard. What has been decided is to close the temple mount of the haram al-sharif with the al-aqsa mosque to those Israeli marches.
Kramer Tanya also explained that there's a very heavy confrontations between Palestinians. The Palestinian youths are throwing rocks and the Palestinians youth are saying that the Israeli police is using stun grenades rocks an there are dozens of injured already.
She further noted that there are several reasons that confrontation has been tensed in the city. Starting with police, she said the police putting barrier in one of the plazes in east Jerusalem in front of Damascus gate and she said the march of the march of the ultra far right. The other reasons she put forward is the issue of the potential eviction of four Palestinian families from one of the Palestinian neighborhoods in Sheikh Sharach in the next east Jerusalem. One of the families facing eviction in favor of Jewish settlers Muna alcort talked about what they had to face and what they are experiencing.
Muna lamented that, the land is their life as Palestinians and they own the land, lived legally and everything is documented legally and the Jewish came there and occupy the place and they wants to occupy what remains of the neighborhood. She showed part of a house that has been taken over by Jewish settlers a decade ago and the land they claim to be their own. she said the families settled there by Jordan and the UN after the Israeli Arab war in 1948 and they lost everything after being displaced at that time. Then the Israeli law prevent them from claiming their lost properties unless the supreme court allows a new appeal and there were no legal options for the family.
She said each one of them has packed a bad with the most important paoers, passport, identity cards, everything important like certificates from school and university in case they evict them.
BBC finally report that the families is awaiting a court decision on whether or not they're going to be evicted but the decision has been postponed.
Tanya Kramer explains that the Supreme Court of high court of justice in Israel postponed the hearing when they could have made a potential decision on thus pending eviction in favor of this Jewish settlers who claims the land and also the attorney general of Israel has submitted to postpone the hearing to weigh on the case which gives the families a brief respite so to speak they can stay in their homes for now but it doesn't cancel the decision by a lower court that already authorized the eviction after lengthy court battle by this Jewish settler. So basically, it doesn't also change the root causes in the report and also other families in thee middle of court proceedings that are facing pending eviction that are under threat of eviction in the coming months.
